18 Oct 2010 Evaluate

ONGC has notified oil and gas discoveries in its pre-NELP blocks. The company has reported oil find in its pre-NELP on land block in Cauvery Basin and gas discovery in its shallow offshore block in Krishna Godavari Basin.

The company said that the two discoveries have been notified to Directorate General of Hydrocarbon (DGH) after the previous board meeting held on September 22. The well North Kovilkallappal-1 in L-II PEL block, Cauvery Basin – Onland flowed oil at the rate of 300 barrels/day. The well has been put on production, the company said.

The discovery of oil has established prospectivity in the area between Kovilkalappal and Adichapuram in Nagapattinam sub-basin and has opened up a large area for further exploration and appraisal in this part of the block. ONGC has made gas discovery in well GS-KV-1 in IF PEL Block, KG Basin- Shallow Offshore.

The exploratory well GS-KV-1 drilled in the block produced gas at the rate of 81,910 cubic metre/day from one zone and from another zone it produced at the rate of 1,26,583 cubic metre/day along with some condensates. The development of the shallow water area is under concept stage in the East Coast and would be consolidated for evolving a cluster-based approach of development and production.
