SSWL sets up Rs 140-cr wheel rim plant in Jamshedpur

Steel Strips Wheels Ltd (SSWL) has set up a manufacturing plant at a cost of Rs 140 crore in the steel city for supplying the parts to leading auto majors. The plant will have an initial production capacity of one million wheel rims which will be upgraded to two million in mid-2011.

 

Wheel rims produced here would also be supplied to another leading automobile company Ashok Leyland and the export markets in Japan and Europe. SSWL was expecting to double the capacity by next year. While the total capacity of the company in India was presently 11 million, that will be enhanced to 15 million by March next year.

 

Expansion of Chennai unit, which presently has 2.5 million capacity, is going on. The company has invested Rs 45 crore for the expansion of the unit. The production of the Chandigarh unit of the company was recently raised to 9 million from the existing 8 million.

 

The company posted a turnover of Rs 450 crore this fiscal and it aims a turnover of Rs 850 crore in 2010-11 on the back of new capacity addition and increased exports. crackcrack
