Tata Power Company’s first 800-MW unit of its flagship 4,000 MW Mundra Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) has achieved full capacity utilization and commercial date of operation of the unit will be declared shortly. The 4,000 MW Mundra plant in Gujarat is the country’s first UMPP. Mundra UMPP will have five units, each having a capacity of 800 MW. The work on other four units is also on track and progressing well.

The Mundra project utilizes super critical boiler technology that is environment friendly. Power generated from the plant would be supplied to Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab.

Tata Power also aims to set up 300-MW of solar power capacity by 2017. It has so far executed a 3-MW solar PV plant at Mulshi, one of the largest grid-connected solar projects in Maharashtra, and had set up its first solar power plant of 110 kW, way back in 1996 at Walwhan in Lonavla.
