Cipla in talks with international health group to market contraceptive pills

18 Sep 2012 Evaluate

Cipla, country's second-largest pharmaceuticals company, is in discussion with an international health group to expand its contraceptive pills market. The company has held preliminary talks with London-based International Planned Parenthood, an organization that promotes sexual and reproductive health, for supplying drugs in Africa and South Asian countries and collaborating in research in the contraceptives segment.

The company is planning to market these contraceptive drugs in developing countries as per the demands of non-government organizations and aid groups, such as International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). It is also looking for an international market as contraceptive drugs are subject to stringent regulations to prevent misuse in India. Advertisement of these medicines is prohibited and drug manufacturers have to maintain records.
