HDFC Bank, the country’s second largest private sector bank has organized the Coin Mela in Chennai to distribute coins to the general public as well as provide fresh currency notes in exchange for soiled and mutilated ones. The bank has distributed coins worth a total of Rs 6.5 crore during this financial year of which Rs 2.58 crore of coins were distributed in these melas, the first of which took place in April 2013.
