The Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative (Campco) has recorded a business turnover of Rs 1,200 crore during 2013-14 which is the highest turnover achieved by it in 40 years of its existence. This includes turnover of Rs 956 crore from sales of arecanut, Rs 212 crore from chocolate and the remaining from rubber and kaju-supari. The turnover for 2012-13 stood at Rs 936 crore.
On quantity basis, a total of 5.43 lakh quintals of arecanut valued at Rs 956 crore was sold in the last fiscal year. The co-operative’s chocolate factory in Puttur produced 12,501 tonnes of chocolate in 2013-14 as against 15,634 tonnes in 2013-14. The other areas of business that Campco dabbled in include rubber where it did business of Rs 14.92 crore and copper sulphate where the turnover was Rs 1.03 crore.
During 2013-14, Campco opened six new branches and has planned to reward farmers who sold arecanut to the cooperative.
