Apollo Hospitals to expand its footprint with hub and spoke model

Date: 11-08-2014

Apollo Hospitals Enterprise is planning to expand its footprint with the hub and spoke model and by harnessing telemedicine technology. In this regard, the company has introduced eICU, a remote ICU monitoring system in Chennai and Hyderabad hospitals.

The company is planning to introduce the same in Kolkata, which will allow it to expand in smaller towns and cities of eastern region. The eICU system will help the Kolkata hospital to act as a hub and the telemedicine centres in districts and smaller towns will act as spoke offering intensive care.

The tentative cost to implement the eICU was less than Rs 10 crore for monitoring around 500 beds in remote locations. At present, telemedicine centres were mostly utilised as tele-consultation centres but in near future these centres could be upgraded to offer intensive care with the help of specialised doctors with live monitoring and advice by sitting at a remote location.

Apollo Hospitals is the leading private sector healthcare provider in Asia and owns and manages a network of speciality hospitals and clinics, a chain of Pharmacy retail outlets across the country, and provides Consultancy Services for commissioning and managing the Speciality Hospitals.
