The Rubber Board would use modern technological tools like satellite mapping so as to make the process easier not only for the data collecting officials but also for growers. Satellite mapping can effectively be used in collection of field level statistics without actually visiting the location.
The Chairman of Rubber Board also launched the ‘Certification of Rubber Plantations’ course. The certification programme was introduced in response to the demands from growers. It would also be useful to the board for getting statistical data which are more realistic. The certification is voluntary and is initially given for a period of twenty years which could then be renewed.
The Rubber Research Institute of India has recently undertaken the satellite mapping of rubber plantations. The real time location of the plantations could be traced out any time in future by mapping using global positioning coordinates. These data could be used for creating satellite mapping of plantations in any selected geographical area.
