Bajaj Auto to manufacture motorcycles in Bangladesh: Report

Bajaj Auto is reportedly planning to manufacture motorcycles at a plant in Bangladesh from June 2015. In this regard, Bajaj Auto’s local assembler -- Uttara Group -- is set to build a Taka 150 crore plant, which will be operated and technically supported by Bajaj.

Moreover, the motorcycle factory will be built on ten acres of land in the Zirani Bazar area of Gazipur District. Twenty to twenty-five components of the motorcycle will be manufactured at the Bangladesh plant, while the other components will come from the Bajaj plant in India.

Further, the factory will initially manufacture four models - Platina 100, Discover 100, Discover 125 and Pulsar 150. Its annual production capacity will be 1.5 lakh units, and it will employ around 450 people including two to three foreign employees.

Bajaj Auto is a $2.3 billion company founded in 1926. It is world’s fourth largest two and three-wheeler manufacturer. Bajaj Auto has three plants in all, two at Waluj and Chakan in Maharashtra and one plant at Pant Nagar in Uttaranchal.
