Siemens has delivered 1200 kilovolts (kv) capacitor voltage transformer (CVT) to central transmission utility Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) for the latter’s test station at Bina in Madhya Pradesh. PGCIL is planning to move India’s transmission system to 1200 kv, the highest capacity transmission system voltage in the world, by 2017. The 1200 kv system will need less than half the space used by the existing 800 kv system with fewer numbers of lines for transmitting the same power, besides reducing the land footprint and overall environmental impact.
Earlier, Siemens delivered 1200 kV SF6 circuit-breakers from its manufacturing facility at Aurangabad and 1200 kv dis-connectors made its Hyderabad plant to the Bina station.
Siemens is the flagship listed company of Siemens AG in India and is a major player in the electronics and electrical engineering business. Germany’s Siemens AG holds a 75 per cent stake in the company.
