Tata Steel trades higher on the bourses

Tata Steel is currently trading at Rs. 422.75, up by 7.05 points or 1.70% from its previous closing of Rs. 415.70 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 411.90 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 423.70 and Rs. 408.55 respectively. So far 11,01,000 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 10 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 662.80 on 25-Jan-2011 and a 52 week low of Rs. 332.35 on 02-Jan-2012.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 424.00 and Rs. 354.65 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 40,550.00 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 30.72% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 41.68% and 25.46% respectively.

Tata Steel, the world’s seventh-largest steelmaker reported a fall of 1.1% in its December quarter sales, while production of its hot metal grew about 3% for the quarter over corresponding period last year.

The company has reported sales of 1.62 million tonnes for the third quarter ended December 2011 as against 1.64 million tonnes in corresponding last quarter.

The sale of flat products during the quarter was up 3% year-on-year, while sales of long products were low due to the lower availability of finished goods because of the planned shut down in the mills.

Production of crude steel grew by 2.5% to 1.76 million tonnes as against 1.72 million tonnes in corresponding last quarter. Output of hot metal was up 3% at 1.9 million tonnes as against 1.84 million tonnes in corresponding previous quarter. However, the production of saleable steel was down at 1.73 million as against 1.75 million tonnes.
