Tata Motors has inked a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Ballard Power Systems Inc for 12 FC velocity-1100 fuel cell stacks. These stacks are expected to power zero-emission buses planned for demonstration in various Indian cities. Ballard Power will deliver the fuel cells over 2012 and 2013, in-line with Tata Motor’s plans.
Recently, Tata Motors had showcased three new models slated for launch in the next financial year at the 11th Auto Expo held in Delhi. The company had also displayed four concept cars equipped with alternate fuel technology, based on existing platforms. These were the Tata Nano CNG, Indigo Manza diesel-electric hybrid, Tata Starbus Fuel Cell and Tata Indica Magic Iris CNG.
The company displayed the new Safari Strome model in the SUV segment. It also showcased the Tata Ultra truck range and 5-axle truck Tata LPT 3723. The firm plans to launch these vehicles in the market by next financial year. The Tata LPT 3723 is a 5-axle truck with a payload of 25 tonnes.
