Finance Minister to present Union Budget on March 16

The Union Budget will be presented on March 16 by the Finance Minister, Pranab Mukherjee. The budget session of the Indian Parliament will begin on 12 March 2012 and end on 30 March 2012. The second part of the budget session will be held from April 24 to May 22. The Railways Budget will be presented on 14 March while the Economic Survey will be tabled on 15 March.

The budget session has been has been delayed this year due to the ongoing Assembly elections in five states, including Uttar Pradesh. The model code of conduct enforced by India’s election commission, does not allow governments to make policy announcements during election. It will remain in force till March 9, 2011 till the election process is completed.
