NTPC plans to double its installed capacity in next ten years

NTPC, the largest power generator in the country, is planning to double its current installed capacity to 90,000 MW in the next ten years. Currently, the company generates 44,398 MW of power from all sources of energy. Out of this, 12,115 MW or 27 per cent of the total was added in the last four and a half years. The company has 23,000 MW under execution, which will be commissioned in the next five years. Another 15,000 MW is under award stage and will complete in seven years and further 8,000 MW is in planning stages and will take about a decade to come up.

Meanwhile, the company, which generates maximum power from coal, is also planning to include solar energy in its total installed capacity in the coming years. Furthermore, the company had recently marked its debuts into hydro generation space with commissioning of Unit no 2 of 200 MW of Koldam Hydro Power Project on March 30, 2015.

NTPC is the largest power generating company in the country. It has also diversified into hydro power, coal mining, power equipment manufacturing, oil & gas exploration, power trading & distribution.
