-2.90 (-0.83%) National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has commissioned the Unit No. 1 of 660 MW of Sipat Super Thermal Power Project on June 28, 2011. Pursuant to commissioning, the total capacity of NTPC group has become 34,854 MW. This is the first super-critical 660 MW unit of NTPC which has been added to the capacity. With the coming of this unit, the total installed capacity of Sipat Super Thermal Power Project has become 1,660 MW.
Recently, NTPC was planning to establish power exchange. In this regard, the company had formed joint venture company (JVC) namely National Power Exchange (NPEX). The joint venture with NHPC, Power Finance Corporation (PFC) and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) had already received in-principle approval from the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) to start.
NTPC’s net profit for the quarter ended March 31, 2011 surged 37.88% at Rs 2781.84 crore as compared to Rs 2017.65 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2010. Its total income increased by 24.81% at Rs 16185.08 crore for the quarter under review from Rs 12967.44 crore in the corresponding previous quarter.
