Maruti Suzuki traverses one crore sales mark

Maruti Suzuki India, the country’s largest carmaker has crossed the one-crore unit’s milestone of cumulative sales in the domestic market since it started selling cars 29 years back. It has dispatched 10 millionth vehicle, a Red Swift Vxi, to Coimbatore on February 9 from the company’s Manesar plant.

The company had rolled out its first car M800, in December 1983 and attained five million domestic sales in February 2006. The next five million domestic sales have been achieved in six years. Model-wise, cumulative sales were led by the company's old war horse Maruti 800 (26.36 lakh units) followed by entry level hatchback Alto and its varient K10 (19.08 lakh units), Omni van (14.37 lakh units), WagonR (11.14 lakh units) and Swift at 6.85 lakh units.

The entity has sold a total of 115,433 vehicles in the month of January 2012, up by 5.2% as compared to 109,743 vehicles in January 2011. This includes 14,386 units of exports during the month, registering 54.3% increase.
