NTPC awards orders worth over Rs 6,000 crore for 4,000 MW Kudgi project

State-run NTPC has placed equipment orders worth over Rs 6,000 crore for three units of its upcoming 4,000 MW Kudgi super thermal power plant in Karnataka with Doosan Chennai Works and Toshiba JSW Turbine and Generator.

The company has placed the steam generator (SG) order worth Rs 3,804.70 crore with Doosan Chennai Works, while the steam turbine generator (STG) order to the tune of Rs 2,282.90 crore has been given to Toshiba JSW Turbine and Generator. It is going to use the equipments for the stage I - 2,400 MW capacity with three units of 800 MW each of Kudgi super thermal power project, coming up at an estimated cost of over Rs 15,166 crore.

The company expects to complete both the orders in a period of 52 months from February 17, the date of notification of these orders. The bulk tender for the same was floated on February 4, 2011. Power generated from this project will be supplied to Southern states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry.

The company has reported a fall of 10.17% in its net profit of Rs 2130.39 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2011 as compared to Rs 2371.48 crore for the same quarter in the previous year due to increase in coal prices. However, total income has increased by 14.66% from Rs 14165.33 crore for Q3FY11 to Rs 16245.42 crore in the quarter under review.
