R-Power commissions first unit of Rosa plant

Date: 29-12-2009

Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group controlled Reliance Power Ltd (R-Power) on Monday commissioned the first 300 mw unit of its Rosa power plant, which will have a total capacity of 1200 mw when fully commissioned in March 2012. The plant was earlier scheduled to be completed in the 12th plan period (2012-2017).

The first unit of the power plant is also the first for R-Power, which is building nearly 34,000 mw of power capacity, including three ultra mega power plants of 4000 mw each. Till date, R-Power was earning revenues by undertaking EPC contracts for other power generating companies.

March 2012 would mark the beginning of a new era in the history of Reliance Power as it hopes to simultaneously commission two other power projects -- a 600 mw plant in Nagpur and a 1,300 mw plant at Sasan in Madhya Pradesh. R-Power is spending Rs 6000 crore for constructing the Rosa power plant.
