HDFC Bank, the private lender, has launched an awareness CSR initiative ‘Dhanchayat’ at Madurai, in Tamil Nadu. Dhanchayat video van would pass through 80 to 85 villages in and around this region over the next 45 days. It would stop at village panchayats, schools and all places enroute wherever there is a community of people and educate them about banking with the organised sector. Two Dhanchayat vans have been allocated for the state and these would cover 300 villages over the next six to eight weeks

The initiative aims to sensitise the rural populace about the perils of borrowing from the unorganised sector and helping them understand the nitty-gritty of clean and convenient banking.

HDFC Bank is one of India’s premier banks providing a wide range of financial products and services to its 32 million customers across hundreds of Indian cities using multiple distribution channels including a pan-India network of branches, ATMs, phone banking, net banking and mobile banking. As of June 30, 2015, the bank had a distribution network with 4,101 branches and 11,962 ATMs.
