Ashok Leyland cuts truck prices

Date: 26-02-2009

Consequent to 2% cut in excise duty on trucks and auto components, Ashok Leyland has indicated that it will pass on the full benefit to customers through cut in prices.  The company indicated that despite high inventory of vehicles which has already suffered higher excise duty, it will still cut the prices on an average by over Rs 16000 per vehicle.

Before the cut effected on 24th February 2009, the goods carriers suffered higher 10% excise duty and passenger carriers suffered lower 8% excise duty.  But now, both goods carriers and passenger carriers suffer 8% excise duty, and the commercial vehicle producers are passing on this benefit to customers in respect of the goods carriers (trucks).
