21.55 (5.10%) Coal India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Environmental Engineering Research Institute, Nagpur. The MoU has been approved by the board of directors to carry out the identification of environmental issues through monitoring data of CIL and preparing action plan for remediation of the same in coal mining, identification of opportunities by CIL for improved environmental management, Life cycle assessment of coal sector of CIL, Techno-legal issues or requirement of regulatory authorities pertaining to environment, capacity building by organizing orientation training for environment aspect of CIL environment department staff, R & D studies for implementation of cutting age technologies in CIL to keep CIL ahead in environmental conservation and Third party auditing for compliance of Environmental clearance conditions in respect of CIL Mines.
Coal India (CIL) as an organized state owned coal mining corporate came into being in November 1975 with the government taking over private coal mines. The CIL is the single largest coal producer in the world.
