Tata Power’s JV adopts modern technologies to curb power theft

Date: 20-01-2016

Tata Power Delhi Distribution (TPDDL), a joint venture (JV) of Tata Power and the Government of Delhi, is aggressively using technology interventions to track theft of power in its area of distribution in north and northwest Delhi. The power theft is undesirably burdening the honest customers and TPDDL is using advanced technologies for unearthing power theft and booking the power thieves.

TPDDL is using technologies like smart metering, accurate energy auditing and continuously updating meter specifications so as to make the system as foolproof as possible. To curb power theft TPDDL has installed automated meter reading (AMR) based energy systems at the distribution transformer (DT) level and undertaken four levels of energy audits of all distribution transformers on a regular basis.

Tata Power is India’s largest integrated power company with a growing international presence. The company together with its subsidiaries and jointly controlled entities has an installed gross generation capacity of 8,669 MW and a presence in all the segments of the power sector.
