Ministry of Mines not to impose complete ban on export of chrome ore

Date: 30-04-2012

The Ministry of Mines is in no mood to impose a complete ban on export of chrome ore since at present the country’s production is sufficient to meet domestic consumption as well as export.

The Minister of Mines (Independent Charge), Shri Dinsha J. Patel stated that the present production of chromite is sufficient to meet domestic consumption as well as export requirements.

India has 203 million tonnes of total resources out of which there is only 54 million tonnes are reserves and 149 million tonnes are remaining resources. Therefore, the steel industry is not directly being impacted by the export of chrome ore. Further, the export of chrome ore is guided by Exim Policy of the country.
