Govt reckons ‘Export Promotion Council’ status to KVIC

The government has given deemed ‘Export Promotion Council’ status to Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) under which KVIC has already enlisted more than 900 exporters so far.  The government has taken this step in order to boost export of Khadi and Village Industries (KVI) products.

There is provision of incentive in the form of 5% FOB value for direct export of KVI products.  KVIC has also been focusing on quality participation in International Exhibitions and Buyer-Seller Meets abroad to tap new/emerging markets for KVI products.

The major KVI products exported during last three years include handmade paper, papad, readymade garments, embroidery items, honey and silk & muslin khadi textiles. Besides, the value of KVI product exported in 2009-10 and 2010-11 stood at 8282.68 lakh and 11684.35 lakh respectively while for the year 2011-12, up to January 2012 exports stood at 7700.00 lakh.
