-7.00 (-0.35%) Bharti Airtel, India’s largest integrated private telecom services provider signed a five-year service management agreement with Ericsson for its Africa operations for an undisclosed amount. According to the agreement, Airtel's mobile networks in Africa will be managed and optimized by Ericsson so as to provide a superior customer experience. Under a separate two year agreement, Ericsson will modernize and upgrade Airtel's mobile networks in Africa with the latest technology.
This deal will allow Ericsson to support Airtel with the complex task of managing operations in several countries. It also provides a chance for Ericsson to widen its managed services into new, untapped African markets. Ericsson will deploy this superior 2G and HSPA 3G technology to ensure that Airtel's customers have an enhanced voice and data experience. As part of the modernization, the company will also provide technology consulting, network planning and design and network deployment.
