NMDC inks contract for Steel Making Shop Package

NMDC has signed a contract for Steel Making Shop (SMS) Package with a consortium led by Siemens VAI, Austria. The contract is for the upcoming three million tonnes a year integrated steel plant at Nagarnar in Chhattisgarh.

This is the sixth major package awarded in respect of company’s greenfield project. The steel melting shop will convert hot metals produced by the blast furnace to steel and the same will subsequently be the input for the thin slab caster and rolling mill to produce the finished saleable product such as low carbon, high strength, line pipe quality, automobile steel, and so on, in the form of hot rolled coils.

NMDC is a state-controlled mineral producer of the Government of India. It is fully owned by the Government of India and is under administrative control of the Ministry of Steel.
