Taking a U-turn over his own statement made in public merely few hours ago, DMK leader Karunanidhi said “We can’t say we will quit if there is no rollback of petrol prices. We never threatened to pull out of the UPA. Communal forces will enter government if we quit.”
Earlier today, Karunanidhi had stated that government is violating the principles of his party and incase the UPA-2 continues this, DMK will part ways from the coalition. Karunanidhi had also added that his party had walked out of alliances, “whether it be the BJP (led NDA) or while being in the VP Singh cabinet.”
On the other hand the leading party in coalition - Congress labeled DMK as a valuable ally and its patriarch’s statement cannot be seen as a threat, said the party spokesperson Renuka Chowdhury.
