323.20 (2.04%) The country’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has reported 4.98% dip in sales to 98,884 units during May, 2012 as compared to 104,073 units in May last year. The domestic sales were down by 4.3% at 89,478 units in May, compared to 93,519 units in the same month last year while, the exports dropped by 10.9% to 9406 units in May, from 10,554 units in the similar month a year-ago.
Total passenger car sales in the domestic market declined by 5.9% to 72,309 units last month from 76,874 units in the same month of 2011. Sales of mini-segment cars, including the M800, A-Star, Alto and WagonR, fell by 29% to 29,895 units during the month, as against 42,125 units in May, 2011.
However, in the compact segment (comprising the Estilo, Swift and Ritz models) the company witnessed a 14.7% jump in sales to 24,290 units, from 21,185 units in the same month a year ago.
Sales of the company’s DZiRE model last month increased by 63.8% to 17,707 units, from 10,812 units in May last year. MSI's mid-sized sedan SX4's sales slipped by 85% to 405 units from 2,702 units in the year-ago month. Luxury sedan Kizashi witnessed 76% fall in sales at 12 units as against 50 units in the same month last year.
