Cotton arrival dips marginally lower at 32.12 million bales

In the current cotton marketing year so far, cotton arrivals in major markets stood at 32.12 million bales. This is marginally lower as compared to the arrivals which stood at 32.15 million bales of 170 kg each as of May 27, 2011, in the year-ago period.

Of the total 32.12 million bales, the North region constituting Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan has accounted for 5.54 million bales, the Central region constituting Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh accounted for 18.66 million bales, the South region constituting Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu accounted for 7.52 million bales while Orissa and other states accounted a total of 0.39 million bales of cotton.

As per the report from the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI), per day cotton arrivals are reported to be around 65,000 bales. Cotton marketing year runs from October to September.

The Cotton Advisory Board (CAB) has revised the production estimates for the current season upwards to 34.7 million bales from 34.5 million bales. While the domestic consumption estimates has been revised downwards to about 25 million bales from 26 million bales earlier. Besides as per the data compiled by the agriculture ministry, in 2011-12 crop year (July-June), India is estimated to produce a record 35.2 million bales of cotton.
