0.50 (0.30%) Tata Steel is planning to set up a six million tonnes per annum capacity steel plant in Karnataka. The plant entailing an investment of around Rs 30,000 crore would come up at Haveri district. The company had made this announcement at the government-sponsored Global Investors' Meet (GIM) 2012.Tata Steel vice-chairman B Muthuraman was present at the summit along with other various industry biggies.
Besides Tata, a total investment of Rs 7,000 crore has been proposed by Aditya Birla Group in the Karnataka state which would include setting up of four million tonne per annum capacity cement plant entailing an investment of Rs 2,750 crore. Before the commencement of GIM 2012 event, the state had expressed its aim to sign MoUs envisaging an investment of Rs six lakh crore.
