Maharashtra state government extend fruit crops insurance scheme

Maharashtra state government has extended the insurance policy for fruit crops due to losses incurred by farmers in adverse weather conditions on getting overwhelming response from farmers last year. Specifically for Vidarbha region the government has announced detail for orange crop. The Mrig bahar insurance would be available for crop in case of inadequate rains from June 15 to July 15 and also for losses caused due to strong and heavy winds from January 1 to March 31, 2013.
 
The government has also announced details of the policy for the coming season for fruits like grapes, banana, orange, sweet lime, pomegranate, mango and cashew nuts. For farmers who have taken loans, the insurance scheme has been made compulsory, while others can opt voluntary. The premium for the farmers with loans will be deducted directly from their loan amount. The farmers will have to contact bank officials, district agriculture or taluka agriculture officer for the scheme by June.
