Kharif oilseeds sown in 1,72,000 hectares

Sowing of Kharif oilseeds is in progress and have been sown in 1,72,000 hectares so far, as per the preliminary reports received from fields. Sesamum has been sown in 52,400 hectares while Sunflower and Groundnut has been sown in 20,400 hectares and 88,700 hectares respectively as on June 14, 2012. 

State wise Karnataka accounts for 25,000 hectares of Sesamum cultivation. Andhra Pradesh has reported sowing of groundnut in 36,000 hectares while Tamil Nadu accounts for 21,800 hectares of groundnut cultivation.

As against 49.47 lakh hectares last year, Sugarcane has been planted in 51.76 lakh hectares while Jute has been sown in 8.03 lakh hectares so far.
