Central Bank of India inks agreement with NPCI for issuance of RuPay Cards

Central Bank of India (CBI) has inked an agreement with National Payment Commission of India (NPCI) for issuance of RuPay Cards. The bank is also in process of configuring all its EDC machines to be RuPay Compliant. With the above feature, the bank will be in a position to issue RuPay cards as well as make payment of all RuPay cards issued by other banks in the country.

The agreement was signed on behalf of bank’s General Manager and CEO of NPCI in the presence of Chairman of Board of NPCI. The charges currently levied by RuPay are almost at par with others. NPCI has assured that shortly they will bring down these charges. Besides, NPCI has also requested banks to issue RuPay cards for Financial Inclusion and Kisan Credit Card.

Central Bank of India was the first Indian commercial bank which was wholly owned and managed by Indians. Central Bank of India holds a very prominent place among the Public Sector Banks on account of its network of 3656 branches and 178 extension counters at various centers throughout the length and breadth of the country.
