1.35 (0.57%) Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is all set to open a new sedimentary basin in the country as it puts Kutch offshore on the oil and gas map of India. Kutch would be India’s eighth sedimentary basin. The company has made a significant natural gas discovery in the Gulf of Kutch off the west coast, which it plans to bring to production in 2-3 years.
The company had previously opened for commercial production six out of India's seven producing basins. Cauvery was the last Category-I producing basin which was discovered in 1985.
ONGC is India’s largest government-run corporation and produces about 70% of India’s crude oil and natural gas. The corporation is the biggest public sector commercial organization in India.
