SpiceJet to spread network to more North Indian cities

Date: 05-07-2012

In a bid to expand its network, SpiceJet will be launching new services from next week using the planes from the national capital to various north Indian cities. In the first phase of north India expansion, it will connect to Amritsar, Chandigarh, Srinagar and Indore. The airline company has recently strived connecting southern India with its newly acquired Bombardier Q400 NextGen turboprop aircraft.

Also in its effort to serve affordable air connectivity for more destinations in North India, New Delhi would be its third base after Hyderabad and Chennai for its new Bombardier Q400 NextGen turboprop fleet. It also aims to further enhance air connectivity to Tier-II and Tier-III cities and towns.

SpiceJet had placed an order for 15 such aircraft. Last week it took delivery of five aircraft from Bombardier in Canada shoring up its flee to 12 such planes. The aircraft can accommodate 78 passengers and is widely accepted as the best short-haul plane globally.

Further, the five aircraft has been named after a particular spice. It will be christened as Dhaniya, Haldi, Javitri, Jaiphal and Laung and all are financed through Export Development Corporation (EDC) of Canada.
