For boosting horticulture in the state, the new ‘Horticulture Hub Establishment Policy 2012’ has been approved by the Madhya Pradesh Government. The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting which was chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Apart from making the horticulture crops profitable and increasing its production, the objectives of the policy also comprises of encouraging post-harvesting management including storage, grading, packing, quality improvement and arrangements for marketing.
Also as per the policy, for products to be grown in clusters of horticulture hub, one or more centralized facilities will be made available for production of high-quality plantation material, grading, sorting, packing etc and more than one cluster (village groups) will be linked with a hub.
Further, for establishment of horticulture hubs the government has made a provision of Rs 25 crore for the year 2012-13. The experts will study feasibility report to ensure that establishment of hub is beneficial for an area. Later upon preparing the detailed project report and getting the endorsement by an empowered committee headed by the Chief Secretary the hub will be established which will be run under PPP mode. This establishment of horticulture hubs will pave way for the state to become pioneer in horticulture and food processing sector.
