Spices Board to connect farmers via mobile tele-network

Date: 13-07-2012

With an aim to help the spices farmers discover the price for their produce and to have direct interface with them, Spices Board is in process of launching a pan-India mobile tele-network. To begin with the board has launched this novel venture in Tamil Nadu in association with the IFFCO Kissan Sanchar (ISKL).

In its first phase, where the board has launched a new community of spices farmers called the ‘Tamil Nadu Spices Community’ it is enlisting spices farmers across the state to the proposed community. The board is expecting to have an initial strength of around 6,000 farmers who will be provided opportunities to receive voice messages every day informing them on the schemes, projects, prices of spices along with announcements from the board.

The spice farming community will also be provided with an interactive medium which will be of a great use to illiterate farmers who are not technologically equipped. Besides, farmers can receive guidance to their farm-related problems from the experts with the helpline facility provided in the systems.

Moreover, apart from benefiting the farmers of spices crops like cardamom, chilli, curry leaf, coriander, pepper, nutmeg, cloves and herbs this effort by Spices Board is also aimed at bridging the gap between farmers, traders and exporters, particularly when the demand for quality spices is high across the globe, more so by linking the processing facilities with the farmer.
