Govt postpones implementation of Food Safety law by 6 months

Date: 27-07-2012

The implementation of food safety law - Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has been extended by the government for a period of 6 months from August 4, 2012 to February 5, 2013, bringing temporary relief to the Food Business Operators (FOBs).

According to the law, penalty and prosecution will be enforced in case, if rats were found at restaurants, serving of pure water and mandated labeling of products without categorizing as five star hotels and a road-side food stall. During the period of 2006, FSSA developed a science based uniform food law and has succeeded to hold the food industry under one umbrella.
