Sowing of rice picks up to 264.39 lakh hectare

As per the preliminary data from the Ministry of Agriculture sowing of rice along with different crops has picked up pace. Rice has been sown in 264.39 lakh hectare so far as against 233.68 lakh hectare a week back. It is however, lower compared to the normal area that is been sown for this time of the year, which stands at around 272.58 lakh hectare.

Besides, sugarcane has been planted in 52.88 lakh hectare, which remained stagnant compared to last week figure but more than the normal area covered for this time of the year which stands at around 46.71 lakhs hectare while cotton has been planted in 109.23 lakh hectare as compared to 100.14 lakh hectare in last week.

Similarly, coarse cereals and oilseeds have been planted in 140.89 lakh hectare and 151.82 lakh hectare respectively, while jute and mesta has been planted in 8.41 lakh hectare. Separately, pulses have been sown in 74.48 lakh hectare.
