In the debate on the Assam crises on Thursday, Arun Jaitley, leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, accused the government for treating the Assam violence as a law and order problem. Further, he emphasized that the region was not safe in the hands of the Congress, as its alleged vote-bank politics encouraged the illegal infiltration into the north-eastern state.
He criticized Congress for its alternative vote bank pursuing tactics and pointed a change in democracy. He also urged the government to take important measures to strengthen the relief and rehabilitation activities so that all those who have suffered on account of this unprecedented situation can be helped out.
Further, as a reply to the debate, home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said that the government has taken the matter very seriously and had initiated a CBI inquiry.
