Reliance Industries’ (RIL) telecom arm -- Reliance Jio Infocomm (Jio) has approached the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for in-flight connectivity licence, that allows service providers to offer connectivity and data services to Indian and foreign airlines.

Besides Jio, the DoT has also received a clutch of other applications including those from Ortus Communications, Station Satcom and Cloud Cast Digital.

Reliance Industries is India’s largest private sector company. The company’s activities span hydrocarbon exploration and production, petroleum refining and marketing, petrochemicals, retail and 4G digital services.
