Maruti Suzuki, country’s largest passenger carmaker is planning to re-hire at least 1,000 of the 1,869-contract workers at its Manesar plant to get closer to the full output level of about 1,900 cars a day over two shifts. It will start the process of converting these workers to permanent positions from September 2, 2012.

After a over month’s halt following the July 18 violence at the plant, the facility re-started operations on August 21and made only 70-80 cars on day one. Therefore, to increase the output on a day-to-day basis, it needs at least 1,000 more people to be closer to full output. Before the July trouble, Manesar had employed 1,528 permanent workers and 1,869 on contract. However, around 500 of the permanent workers were dismissed on August 21 on alleged involvement in the clash.

Recently, Maruti Suzuki has rolled out a new version of Wagon R in India at a price of Rs 4.45 lakh. It has introduced Wagon R Pro -limited edition version of the small hatchback to increase its markets share in the small car segment.
