The Government has permitted export of Food Products like Non Basmati Rice, Wheat, Onion, and certain Milk products, which were banned during the last few years, as per the information provided by Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry. The government’s decision to permit export of banned food products comes on back of adequate availability of these items in the country. Besides, the government has not applied any quantity restriction on export of the above products.
Non Basmati Rice export was prohibited since October, 2007 and now the government has permitted export of non-basmati rice through Notification No. 71 dated September 09, 2011. Wheat whose export was also prohibited since October, 2007 has been permitted for export by the government through Notification No. 72 dated September 09, 2011.
However, export of onion has been free except the time when it was banned for brief period of December 22, 2010 to February 18, 2011 and September 09, 2011 to September 20, 2011.
Besides, on February 18, 2011 the ban was imposed on export of milk powders and casein & casein products. The ban on export of casein and casein products was removed and it was restricted with effect from May 01, 2012. Thus, it became exportable under license. Also export of skimmed milk powder was made free with effect from June 08, 2012.
