Govt proposes Rs 25,550 crore under NFSM for 12th Five Year Plan

The government has proposed an outlay of Rs 25,550 crore under the National Food Security Mission (NFSM) for the 12th Five Year Plan, as per the information provided by Harish Rawat, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries. The government has proposed to continue NFSM during the 12th Five-year Plan accompanied by some alteration. With focused attention on indentified crops following a location specific and targets oriented production strategies, NFSM is being revamped during the XII Plan. The revamped NFSM forges linkage with all concerned in implementation of crop production activities which have direct bearing on enhancing and stabilizing the crop production.

NFSM-Rice, NFSM-Wheat and NFSM-Pulses are the three components, which will be put into service while implementing NFSM during 2012-13. Coarse cereal and fodder are also proposed to be included in the 12th Five Year Plan. In all, NFSM is implemented in 27 states of the country.

NFSM-Rice is implemented in 210 districts of 24 states viz. Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Orissa, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

NFSM-Wheat is implemented in 166 districts of 12 dtates viz. Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.

NFSM-Pulses is implemented in 468 districts of 16 states viz. Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
