Indraprastha Gas (IGL), the sole supplier of CNG to automobiles and piped cooking gas to households in the NCR, marginally increases the price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) at Rs 0.20 per kg. The new consumer price of CNG is Rs 30.00 per kg in Delhi and Rs 33.60 per kg in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad, effective August 15.
The revision in the price of CNG taken place due to the increase in operational expenses, primarily because of the recent increase in minimum wages announced by the government. This increase will have negligible impact on the per kilometre running cost of vehicles and despite the aforesaid prices increase, CNG will still offer over a 66% saving on the running cost when compared to petrol-driven vehicles at the current level of prices. When compared to diesel-driven vehicles, the economics are also in favour of CNG, as the differential at the revised price would be over 27%.
