For the month of October, 2012 and November 2012, the Central Government has decided to make available a quantity of 40.00 lakh tons of non-levy sugar under normal quota.
Within the validity period of the release order, i.e. from October 01, 2012 to November 30, 2012, the sugar factory shall sell and deliver/dispatch the entire non-levy quantity of 40 lakh tons, released for the months of October, 2012 and November, 2012. However, it will be permitted only with the condition that a minimum quantity of 45% is to be sold off and dispatched /delivered in one of these months.
Further for the Direct Allottee States, a quantity of 3.96 lakh tons of levy sugar quota, has been released for the months of October, 2012 (2.13 lakh tons) and November, 2012(1.83 lakh tons).
The production of sugar, this year, is likely to surpass the demand as the country which is the world’s biggest consumer of the sweetener is likely to produce 24.5 million tonnes (MT) of sugar in 2012/13, higher than the local demand of about 22 MT.
