PM vows to press ahead with reforms

Date: 01-10-2012

With the continuing demand for rollout of recent reform measures and allegations around, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh pointed out that the economic reform is not a one- time process, and vowed to continue with the measures to further liberalize the country's still inward-looking economy and affirmed that it is not dictated by any other country.

Centre’s recent economic decisions, including allowing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail, hike in diesel price and cap on subsidized LPG cylinders to six for each household per year, were strongly opposed by BJP, Left, some allies of UPA and other parties stating that it is anti-social. Even though, the centre strongly adhere to its decisions, stating that whatever measures taken is for the best interest of the nation. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had recently raised allegation that the reforms taken by the government is under the pressure from US. Though, Congress defended Singh by stating that the actions are being taken for nation’s well being.

Earlier this month, Singh had addressed nation defending his government's financial decisions and had asked citizens not to be misled by those who wanted to confuse by spreading fear and false information. He had urged for cooperation, trust and understanding, though it appears to be controversy and had hard decision.
