Suzlon Group, the world’s fifth largest wind turbine supplier, has bagged its second consecutive order from Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) to set up, operate and maintain a 8.4MW wind energy project in Gujarat. The contract was awarded through the tender process. The project will comprise of four units of Suzlon’s S95 - 2.1 MW wind turbine and will be commissioned in early CY 2013.
SMC holds the unique distinction of being India’s first civic body to set up a wind power project in the country and sets an example for other civic bodies across the country.
Suzlon supplied a maiden 3MW wind power project in 2010 for the SMC in Adodar, Gujarat. The new project will augment SMC’s existing wind power portfolio to 11.4MW. Once commissioned, the project will help SMC to reduce its carbon footprint by eliminating approximately 15,000 tones of CO2 emissions per-annum.
