Zomato to stop grocery delivery service

Date: 13-09-2021

Zomato is all set to stop its grocery delivery service from September 17 mainly on account of gaps in order fulfillment leading to poor customer experience, marking its exit from the segment for the second time since last year. The company had entered the segment last year during the lockdown on account of the COVID-19 pandemic but exited the business on the recovery of its food delivery business.

Its investment in Grofers will generate better outcomes for its shareholders than in-house grocery efforts. Zomato has invested $100 million (around Rs 745 crore) for acquiring a minority stake in the grocery delivery platform Grofers.

Zomato is an Indian multinational restaurant aggregator and food delivery company founded by Pankaj Chaddah and Deepinder Goyal in 2008. It provides information, menus and user-reviews of restaurants as well as food delivery options from partner restaurants in select cities.
