-2.75 (-0.79%) NTPC is all geared up to get back its earlier held three coal blocks, Chatti Bariatu, Chatti Bariatu (South) and Kerandari, that could fire its 8,500 MW electricity generation capacity. These three blocks were part of the five-block package, which the company along with Coal India jointly held.
As mentioned in few media reports, the de-allocation letters issued to NTPC earlier for these blocks would be cancelled. In addition, the Government would allocate additional blocks to feed 8,760 MW of new capacities to be installed by state-owned power generator NTPC.
The decision to re-allocate the coal mines, Chatti-Bariatu, Kerandari and Chatti-Bariatu (South), assumes significance especially as it comes at a time when the state-run power generator is grappling with fuel shortages that are denting its electricity generation.
